J/22 World Championship 2002 - First day of J/22 World Championship sees three successfull races
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX-(8-10-2002) Racers should see 5-10 knots, building to ten to fifteen from the southeast for the first day of racing today. Sixty boats will line up at 10:00 CDT (0500 UCT) for the first start.

Race 1
After attempted starts under P, I, Z, Z then Black an all clear start was achieved. First Weather Mark roundings: 52 Young; 13 Nixon; 49 Flynn; 29 Faget. First Leward Gate Roundings: 52; 13; 29; then 4 way tie between 17 Hansen, 49, 10 Doyle & 54 Faust; Second Leward Gate 52 was in the lead by 1:18, followed by 10, 34 Drahiem, 13, 54, 15 Wulff, 32 Johnston. Finish order 52, 10, 13, 34. This is totally unofficial and does not include any starting penalties. Wind is 15 to 17 out of 135.

Race 2
Race 2 was off, after one Z flag general recall, under the Black flag with a clear start. First Windwardmark: 02 Hudson, 04 Ainslie, 54 Faust, 16 Fisher, 06 Peet, 34 Drahiem. Winds holding steady at 15-17 out of 130. 2nd Leeward Gate: 04, 54, 02, 35 Elam, 32 Johnston, 06, 16, 34, 46 Foster, 49 Flynn, 40 Smedley. More later, probably one more race today (14:30)

Race 3
After a Black Flag Start the mark roundings are: first Winward mark; 45 Beckmann, 04 Ainslie, 54 Faust, 47 Nunes, 49 Flynn, 42 Jones, 21 Anderson, 43 Mahoney, 13 Nixon, 5 Hudson. First Leward Mark: 45, 04, 54, 49, 32, 47, then a crowd.
